Water proofing can be define as making a surface water impervious .it’s a treatment by which we make masonry surface non absorpative to water .

there are following terms are used in connection of water absorption by any substance:-

  1. A) water resistance :-it’s the capacity of any substance to resist water from penetrating in it .every substance has its own water resistance capacity but after certain point it absorb water .
  2. B) water repellent :- it’s the capacity of any substance to repel water .there are various coating by application of which masonry substance become water repellent .water repellents are capable of repelling water pressure up to certain level .these coatings are more suitable for vertical surfaces where there is no static pressure.
  3. C) water proofing :-is the term used for making surface impervious to water by using different method & techniques. water proofing technique for any particular area is suggested after calculating probably water pressure .so one water proofing method which is successful at one place may fail at another place. so while suggesting a water proofing treatment is must to understand following:-
  4. probably water pressure which may occur .
  5. Rainfall in that area .
  • water level in that area in case of basement water proofing.

normally in any building /home following place are given attention during water proofing process:-

  1. ground level or podium.
  2. washroom/bathroom.
  3. balcony /dry balcony .
  4. Chajja’s
  5. terrace/terrace garden
  6. Exterior surface .

CONVENTIONAL WAY OF BASE MENT WATER PROOFING IS BOX MATHOD:-

  • After rubble soiling applying PCC we carry out basement water proofing as follow:- for horizontal surface

  • Clean the surface thoroughly with jet water & brush to remove any loose material, lattice, dirt etc.

  • Open the crack of more than 0.5mm in V shape with grinder & clean the dust with blower.

  • Apply 1st coat of slurry of cement & polymer WP 76 in ratio of 2:1 with more water dilution so it should into honey combing.

  • Fill the crack with crack fill & cover it with nonwoven cloths of 30-80 GSM.

  • Apply 2nd coat of slurry of cement & polymer in ratio of 2:1.

  • Apply 3rd coat of slurry of cement & polymer in ratio of 2:1.

  • Spread the cement sand mortar in ratio of 1:4.

  • Kota/Shahabad stone of 2*2 ft. in wet mortar.

  • Fill the gap between stones with cement sand mortar.

  • Apply IPS (Indian plaster system) of 25 mm with cement sand ratio of 1:3with water proofing compound in it.

For vertical surface:-

After civil contractor erect beam & column we carry out vertical water proofing as follow:-

  • Clean the surface thoroughly with jet water & brush to remove any loose material, lattice, dirt etc.

  • Open the crack of more than 0.5mm in V shape with grinder & clean the dust with blower.

  • Apply 1st coat of slurry of cement & polymer WP 76 in ratio of 2:1 with more water dilution so it should into honey combing.

  • Fill the crack with crack fill & cover it with nonwoven cloths of 30-80 GSM.

  • Apply 2nd coat of slurry of cement & polymer in ratio of 2:1.

  • Apply 3rd coat of slurry of cement & polymer in ratio of 2:1.

  • Fix the stone of 2*2 on vertical surface

  • Fill the gap between stones with cement +polymer slurry having 10% polymer & leave it for 2 days

  • Fill the gap between stones with cement sand mortar.

  • Apply IPS (Indian plaster system) of 25 mm with cement sand ratio of 1:3with water proofing compound in it.

  • Make small coving of 50*50 on all junctions of vertical & horizontal surfaces.

Note: – now a day’s more chemicals & membranes have which are replacing conventional method because new technology are:-

  • Easy to apply

  • Fast work process

  • Less chance of mistakes

  • Apply IPS (Indian plaster system) of 25 mm with cement sand ratio of 1:3with water proofing compound in it.

  • Keep the top surface smooth or rough as per client instruction..

Note: – normally thickness is around 110mmto 125 mm.

In conventional way we normally do brick –bat coba– system for bathrooom. The method of system is as follow:-

  • Clean the surface thoroughly with jet water & brush to remove any loose material, lattice, dirt etc.

  • Open the crack of more than 0.5mm in V shape with grinder & clean the dust with blower.

  • Apply 1st coat of slurry of cement & polymer WP 76 in ratio of 2:1 with more water dilution so it should into honey combing.

  • Fill the crack with crack fill & cover it with nonwoven cloths of 30-80 GSM.

  • Apply 2nd coat of slurry of cement & polymer in ratio of 2:1.

  • Apply 3rd coat of slurry of cement & polymer in ratio of 2:1.

  • Apply IPS(Indian plaster system) of 25 mm with cement sand ratio of 1:3with water proofing compound in it.

  • Keep the top surface rough to receive top finish stones/tiles/marble.

Note: – normally bathroom sunkan thickness is around 150mmto 175 mm.

For exterior surface water proofing is normally done with paints.

If we use walltex polytextures normally surface leakage problem does not arise .company gives guarantee for 10 year free maintenance.
